Jason and I created one of my favorite traditions of all time not long after we got together: Watching ‘Christmas Vacation’ (1989) directly after setting up and decorating our Christmas tree. Our first Christmas together was in 2001, and I had never seen the movie before. For some reason I wasn’t quite sure of, he could not comprehend this. Of course, once I watched the movie, it was obvious that I had been a complete fool never to have seen this classic John Hughes film chock full of one-liners (most of which are too PG-13 for even me to type here, although I’m dying to) and we have watched it together every year since.
Christmas is such a wonderful season. We spend a lot. We want a lot. We drink a lot. We watch a lot of movies. Aside from the great things Hallmark and Lifetime are doing as of late, there are loads of entertaining and tear-inducing films that I watch every holiday season not via cable television. The list below are some of said films:
‘Christmas Vacation’ (1989)
‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ (2001)
‘Love Actually’ (2003)
‘Bad Santa’ (2003)
‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ (1946)
‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ (1965)
‘A Garfield Christmas Special’ (1987)
‘Nobody’s Fool’ (1994)
‘Elf’ (2003)
‘White Christmas’ (1954)
Knowing me, I will think of loads more after this is published. For the time being, however, this is the list. What holiday movies do you love?
